Homemade Naan Bread Recipe

Servings: 10 -12 pieces of naan
Author: Jenn

Ingredients

  • 1 .25-oz package Rapid Rise Instant Yeast (2 1/4 tsp), I used Fleischmann's Yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 3 + cups unbleached flour
  • melted butter for topping

Instructions

  • Mix water and yeast in large bowl. Let rise for 10 minutes. Add sugar, milk, egg, salt and enough flour to make a soft dough (about 2 cups).
  • Knead 6-8 minutes, adding more flour to keep dough from sticking - about 1/2 - 1 cup more. Grease bowl and put kneaded dough inside and let rise in warm spot with a towel on top for 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down & lightly knead to make pliable. Pinch off dough into golf ball sized balls. Place balls on ungreased cookie sheet with oil sprayed plastic wrap over the top. Let rise 30+ minutes, until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 550ºF. Roll each ball into an oblong circle and place on a sprayed cookie sheet (I do one or two at a time) and bake for 5-8 minutes, until puffy and has brown spots on top.
  • Pull from oven and give a light coating of melted butter on the top. Serve and enjoy!
