Brown Sugar Bacon aka Candied Bacon aka the Best Bacon EVER! This easy bacon is baked in the oven with a topping of brown sugar and pepper, and comes out sticky, sweet & savory. Absolutely drool-worthy!
Truthfully, we go through a lot of bacon at my house. At least a couple pounds a week. {eek!}
Here’s why…about six months ago we took our extremely picky then 4-year old (and our other boys, too) to the one and only Original Pancake House in Redondo Beach. Side note: have you eaten there? OMG you guys. Best. Pancakes. Ever. Obviously.
Anyway, we all order pancakes and are going to town, while my 4-year old is eating a bowl of applesauce. No clue why this kid has a hate relationship with carbs. He must not be mine…
So yeah, he’s watching us all eat and we’re trying to get him to try the pancakes. Nope, no go. Then he sees my husband’s bacon and asks what that is. My clever husband says, “oh, that’s candy.” My cutie little guy says, “candy? Can I try it?” So of course, my husband obliges and we all stare at my little guy while he takes a bite. Unbelievably, he LOVES it. He ends up eating everyone’s bacon at the table.
So that’s how we found out we have a huge bacon lover in the house and why I go through it like crazy. But let’s take bacon to a whole ‘nother level today. Let’s make it into “bacon candy”, or as the normal people would call it: brown sugar bacon.
I’m a fan of cooking bacon in the oven. It’s so easy to slap a piece of parchment on a cookie sheet and spread the bacon out on top, and pop it in the oven. When it’s done, take the bacon off and toss that parchment right in the trashcan. It’s so much easier!
With this brown sugar bacon, you do the same method but you sprinkle the bacon with pepper and coat it in brown sugar, then bake. The result? An amazing sweet & savory bacon your family will love! Stick a batch in the oven and you’ll have extra time to cook those special pancakes or waffles or eggs for your family.
Or, say… your dad. Father’s Day is right around the corner. This is the perfect addition to breakfast to make your dad feel extra special. Because what dad doesn’t love bacon? Enjoy!
Brown Sugar Bacon
Ingredients
- 1 lb. bacon
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Place a wire rack on top of each sheet.
- Place bacon in a single layer on the two racks. Sprinkle the bacon slices with pepper and then brown sugar.
- Bake in preheated oven until bacon is crisp and browned, about 15-20 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through for even cooking. Pat dry with paper towels, if necessary. Enjoy!
