Turtle Pretzel Bites are a fun holiday snack! They’re quick & easy to make and great to give out as gifts!
My church is having its annual Christmas party this Saturday. They passed sign-ups around a couple weeks ago asking for those to put their names down that want to do a Secret Santa gift exchange. Basically, you’re given a name of a family in the church and you need to drop off 2-3 cute Secret Santa gifts during the week, trying to stay under $15.
I’ve done two gifts so far and need to drop a third one off to my Secret Santa family today. It’s fun to come up with clever things to drop off. My boys have gotten a kick out of the doorbell ditching part of the process. I see lots of pranks in their future… 😉
We had gotten one gift from our Secret Santa, a box of chocolate covered Trader Joe’s Jo-Jos. I had the front door slightly open at about 5pm the other night. My two little boys had fallen asleep in their car seats and I had brought my purse and stuff inside. I open the door to go back outside and take them out of the car, and I’m staring right at my friend’s daughter! She was crouched down, just about to put a jar of homemade hot chocolate on our doorstep!
Seriously?! What are the odds that I happen to open the door at the precise moment that she was placing her Secret Santa gift on our doorstep?!! I told her I didn’t see anything and closed the door. Ha!
I definitely don’t like when surprises are ruined. I remember one Christmas I REALLY wanted to know what presents I was going to get. I knew my mom hid our gifts around the house in random places. I remember searching around in every nook and cranny of her closet. In boxes and random bags. And then I hit the jackpot and found the stash. I was so excited! I did a happy dance and then put it back before my mom knew I’d seen it.
Ahem. I’ve never told her this and she’s probably reading this right now. Sorry Mom! But the moral of the story is that after I knew what I was getting, I had to fake surprise on Christmas day and it wasn’t as exciting. Sort of a let down. Don’t get me wrong, I was excited about the gifts but the surprise aspect was ruined. From then on, I never searched for my gifts beforehand and I love surprises.
Speaking of surprises, check out these little Turtle Pretzel Bites! These little guys are one of those odd combinations that you think just maybe will taste good and then you make them and are surprised at how you just can’t stop eating them!
You get the crispiness from the pretzel, the ooey gooey caramel and chocolate from the Rolo, and the crunch from the pecan. They are SO easy to make. A huge batch only takes a few minutes, making these a great gift idea! Throw a huge handful into a little festive bag and hand out to teachers, friends or Secret Santa families. 🙂 I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Ingredients
- small unsalted pretzel twists
- Rolos candies unwrapped
- pecan halves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350º. Place a sheet of parchment paper on a cookie sheet.
- Place pretzel twists in a single layer on parchment paper. Unwrap Rolos candies and place a candy on top of each pretzel. Carefully place cookie sheet in the oven.
- When the Rolos have just barely softened (check often, it doesn't take long! Maybe 2-3 minutes) carefully pull cookie sheet out of the oven. Press a pecan half on top of each softened candy.
- Let pretzels sit on cookie sheet until completely cooled (or stick it in the fridge to harden some) and then peel the pretzels off the parchment paper. Great to put in gift bags for friends or family or great to eat as a quick treat. Enjoy!!

These sound perfect to me! 🙂 I’m not sure what I would have done if I opened the door at the precise moment someone was leaving me a surprise – I think your reaction was a good one though lol.
