How about making some Watermelon Homemade BBQ Sauce to celebrate National Watermelon Day?! It’s quick, simple to make and tastes delicious! Plus enter to win a $325 Visa card giveaway!
I love celebrating ridiculous National holidays. I mean, what’s not to love? National Toasted Marshmallow Day, National Raspberry Cream Pie Day or even National Cream-Filled Donut Day – why yes. I kind of love crazy National Holidays!
But today is National Watermelon Day. And why shouldn’t watermelon get its own day? It’s juicy, sweet and fun to eat. We love watermelon and eat it all summer long! So when I saw on the crazy National holiday list that today was watermelon’s turn, I thought “hmm. What can I make to celebrate?”
I have watermelon drinks, watermelon salad, watermelon popsicles and watermelon granita recipes already on this here blog. But what about a savory watermelon recipe? Not one of those on here. So today that changes with this Watermelon Homemade BBQ Sauce!
This stuff is so easy to make. It’s sweet, tangy, savory, delicious…the list goes on and on and on! I love the idea of adding watermelon into this sauce because, to be honest, sometimes I have a half or quarter of a watermelon sitting in the fridge that needs to be used up and I’m not one to throw things away. But also, I love watermelon. 🙂
So I blended up some watermelon chunks in my good ‘ol Vitamix blender then poured that into a pan and added minced garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, white vinegar and a little S & P. Heated that to boiling and simmered for awhile until it thickened up.
Your house will smell so good! This stuff is great! I hope you celebrate watermelons’ fun day day with me and make yourself some watermelon homemade BBQ sauce! 😉

- 1/2 cup watermelon puree I used my blender to puree
