Today is National Homemade Bread Day! This is my kind of holiday! I seriously L-O-V-E bread. In my experience, people seem to either have a weakness for sugar/desserts or a weakness for bread/carbs. I’m all for the carbs. Well, I like desserts too but I really like me some carbs. 😉
I’m convinced that people who grew up with parents making homemade bread on a regular basis are good at making bread as an adult. Do you agree with that? I have a couple aunts who are crazy awesome bread makers and their kids are good at baking bread, too. I’ll admit that I’m a little bit bread-challenged. I get a little anxious when I start a bread recipe.
Once I’ve made a bread or roll recipe a few times though, I usually get pretty good at it. These easy dinner rolls are the perfect example. This is my aunt’s recipe that I’ve used for years now. She is an amazing cook and baker and I always know her recipes will turn out delicious. When I first tried them, I was skeptical they would turn out good, especially when they’re touted as “30 Minute Rolls”. But seriously, they are a dream!
These 30 Minute Easy Dinner Rolls only have 7 ingredients (one being water, so that practically doesn’t count, lol) and are so easy to whip together. If you’re making soup for dinner and need a quick roll to serve them with, these are your go-to easy dinner rolls. If you have a last minute guest joining you for dinner, these are your go-to easy dinner rolls. You can’t go wrong!
This recipe makes about 15 rolls, making it the perfect side dish recipe for any night of the week. The rolls turn out fluffy and soft every time! If you’re bread-challenged like me, there’s hope! Is this really 2 TABLESPOONS of yeast?
Yep, 2 Tablespoons. It’s about three of those 1/4 oz packets. The reason you need so much yeast is because these rolls only take 30 minutes to make so you need that instant yeast to really kick in a do its job. Don’t worry though, they don’t taste super yeasty or anything! 🙂
I wasn’t paying attention and accidnelty only added one packet of yeast to this recipe! Oops! However, even though they didn’t rise much during the rising time, the rose beautifully in the oven. I think I’ll have to add a few extra minutes to the baking time due to my oven temperature in order to get those lovely browned tops, but hopefully they taste as good as they look!
Flour? All-purpose? Self-rising??!
Hi Sandi! Sorry about that, I use all-purpose flour.
These rolls are wonderful! I have to admit I was doubtful that the rolls would rise and be light and fluffy. I was so wrong! They ae absolutely heavenly! They saved me so much time compared to my regular recipe. They also so much better in every way. Made them for Thanksgiving. I will be making them for holidays from now on as well as whenever rolls are needed for any occasion. So easy!
Oh wow, thank you so much for the nice words!! I’m so happy you tried them and liked them!
What kind of oil?
Hi Rebekah! I just use canola or vegetable oil. 🙂
This may be a silly question but can you use a regular hand mixer to blend or do you need a stand one with a dough attachment?
Oh my goodness, not a silly question at all! I should probably edit the recipe to clarify. I actually used a big bowl and a wooden spoon to mix mine together. So easy!
I realize this makes about 15 rolls, instead of putting into 9 x 13 pan, could I divide this into 12 and bake in cupcakes pans?
I’ve never tried it but I’m guessing this would be perfect in a cupcake pan! If you do try it, let me know how it turns out!
Can I use regular yeast instead of instant?
I usually only use instant and I’m not sure how fast it would rise using regular. I bet you could, but it probably wouldn’t take 30 minutes. If you try it, I’d love to know how it turned out!
I can answer this! I only have regular yeast in a jar on hand right now. (Darn pandemic!) So what I did was add the warm water, sugar, and yeast to the bowl. Then I mixed it gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. This activates the yeast and it was all bubbly and frothy. After that, I added the oil, egg, salt, flour and followed the rest of the recipe as written. I did let them rise about 30 minutes before baking – but they are wonderful!
The recipe came out beautifully! My family snatched some before I could take a pic lol! ?
YAY! SO happy you all liked them!
Hi Jen,
Would you be able to break down the nutrient facts? Carbs, sodium etc. One recipe I wanted to try had 44 carbs in one roll. I am trying to be cautious what I eat. Many thanks in advance.
Hi Louise! I just updated the recipe with the nutrition facts. I hope that helps!
Thank you, very much appreciated!
Great site
Thank you Frank!!
Just made this yummy rolls and they are exactly true to recipe. VERY GOOD! This recipe is going in my file! Thank you so much for sharing….not an overwhelming recipe either very easy for a beginner bread baker.
I just made them again the other day and they’re so good and easy! Glad you like them too!
I just made these for my hubby who loves rolls. They came out beautifully! This is my first time making any kind of bread that requires yeast and I’m so happy they were a success. I made mine with whole wheat flour instead of all purpose and they still came out amazingly.
Thanks for an amazing recipe!
YAY!! I’m so glad you liked them, Amber! Thanks for the sweet comment!
I just made these 30 minutes Dinner Rolls and they can out very good.. Thank for the recipe.
I’m so glad you liked them, Denise! They’re a favorite at our house, too!
It’s a nice easy recipe, but I ended up using a lot more flour! In the oven now, they smell great!
Where could i post a pic? Instagram? They came out really “pretty?” lol
YES!! Post a pic to Instagram and tag me – jen_yummyhealthyeasy 🙂 Thank you sooooo much! I’ll be sure to repost!
Best dinner rolls I have ever made ! Thank you for sharing your recipe ?????
Thank you for sharing! They are delicious! I split the dough sprinkled half with cinnamon. Baked them according to recipe. Topped the cinnamon ones with butter cream. So rolls and desert at the same time!!
These rolls are so delicious and super easy to put together. Husband approved and he is very particular. My go to dinner roll recipe. Thank you for sharing
really good recipe
could you use coconut oil aswell? thanks
Hi Celia! I haven’t tried using coconut oil but I’m sure it would work just fine! Let me know if you try it!
Super easy recipe. Tastes soooo yummy! Thank you as this recipe is a keeper!
I usually use my bread machine for dough but didn’t feel like hauling it out and then cleaning it all up so tried your recipe. So glad I did. One bowl to wash! They turned out great. I had to bake a little longer in my oven to get them browned but my oven is not accurate, I guess. Thanks for this recipe.
Love love LOVE this recipe. I used Bread Flour this time as I generally have it (and weirdly I am out of AP) and man they came out so fluffy! This really is an easy and divine recipe. I made mine to go with my husbands smoked pulled pork, add some coleslaw and… perfection!
I just made these dinner rolls and they are amazing. Thank you for a great recipe. I can’t believe how light and fluffy they are.
I needed to make ALOT of these rolls, and to save time forming into individual rolls. I patted the dough out onto the sheet pan, cut into individual size and then baked. They turned out amazing. I just flipped them over out of the pan at the end of the cooking time and they pulled apart beautifully. This will be my go-to roll recipe when I need to make a large batch.
These came out perfectly! Light and fluffy, and super easy to prepare. Delicious! Thank you!
Where has this recipe been all of my life ? I’m shocked ( I was a bit apprehensive at first ) . I usually spend at least 3 hours making yeast rolls including kneading . Not only are these delicious they are super easy . I will never go back ! Thanks for sharing this wonderful roll recipe .
