Chocolate Cookies with AVOCADO?! Yup. Amazing, moist, chocolatey, rich Double Chocolate Avocado Cookies! Prepare to fall in love.
It should be a rule that mom’s should never get sick.
Seriously.
My kids will one by one get sick and I’m the one wiping their noses, doling out medicine, rubbing Vick’s on their chest, getting up with them in the night, etc etc.
And then as soon as they’re all better, guess who gets it?!
Life has moved on by then and I’m stuck driving to baseball practices, piano lessons, scouts, and so on and so forth. Meanwhile I’m on my death bed with the world’s worst cold and nobody is taking care of me!
So yes, mom’s should never get sick because we never get a day off!
This has been one of the worst colds I’ve EVER had. Five days later and I’m finally feeling a little better but still congested. Okay, END of rant!
Cookies. Let’s talk avocado. Cookies and avocado? Weird.
But good weird. It’s one of those things that you’re like “who came up with this?” and then you make them and realize that it’s genius and you should have been doing it all along!
You can’t taste the avocado at all. My boys were downing these cookies. You should have seen the look on their faces when I told them that there was avocado in them. Pretty funny stuff! Regardless, these cookies did not last long, as cookies usually don’t at my house full of boys.
They’re moist, rich, chocolatey and overall a bit healthier than the average chocolate cookie. It makes you wonder what other crazy combos have you missed out on? Maybe tomato cookies? 😉
Double Chocolate Avocado Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup white whole wheat flour
- 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp. Truvia or 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup coconut oil melted
- 1/2 cup avocado mashed or pureed in the food processor
- 3 egg whites
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the flours, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
- In a standing mixer bowl, blend the brown sugar and Truvia. Slowly beat in the coconut oil. Add in the mashed or blended avocado, egg whites, and vanilla. Blend on low speed until smooth.
- Add the flour mixture and chocolate chips and blend on low speed until the dough is just combined. Dough will be crumbly. Refrigerate for about 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 300º F. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray. Roll the dough into small balls and place on cookie sheet. Flatten slightly and bake for 17-19 minutes (do not over bake!) Transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool. Enjoy!

Jen, these look incredible! I’m all about avocado in cookies, especially if they are chocolate! I hear ya on the mom’s being sick thing. I had the same awful cold last week. It’s just not fair that we don’t get a nap when we’re not feeling well, yet when they’re sick, they get to lay around all day while we serve them. Such is life I guess. I hope you feel better soon!

What an absolutely beautiful recipe, I have never heard of this cookie before. We are going to use it for our dieting group next week. This will be a great treat. Avocados are incredible and are so very healthy. One of the ladies in our group lost 75 pounds on Avocadoes, we are definitely going to do this recipe.

Being sick as a mom should totally not be allowed, ugh. Glad you’re on the upswing! These cookies look wonderful – I tried avocado in regular chocolate chip cookies once and they tasted great but the weird green tinge totally threw off my kids and they weren’t fans…everything is better with double chocolate 🙂

The one thing that’s held me back from baking with avocado (other than I love to eat avocados, and never HAVE extra), is the fact that avocados notoriously don’t “keep”. They go funky pretty fast, right? How do these cookies hold up – days, weeks?

Hi Charlotte! These cookies were gone pretty quick but I can see what you mean about the avocado. They will last probably two days on your countertop or you can throw them in the freezer or fridge and do a quick 15-20 sec microwave heat up to make them warm again. They’re surprisingly pretty good! My boys didn’t know they had avocado in them until after they had eaten most of them. Thanks for the comment. I hope this helps!

These were awesome! They were gone in a day and a half. They remind me of the Snackwells devils food cookies. I don’t feel bad about giving these to my 18 mos. Old, who was premature, who is still trying to catch up on his weight. My 4 year old couldn’t eat these fast enough. Will definitely be making these again.

These were delicious! Mine came out a bit dry, but I think that was because I was a little short on the avocado and guestimated with the flour. Definitely will be making again. I wonder if substituting flax seed for the egg white would make them less fluffy?

I’m going through a nasty stomach bug right now, and yesterday I had to totally fake it through the day. Fortunately my boss insisted that I took the day off today, which meant getting some much needed rest. Made these today – they were super great! I used just shy of a 1/2 tsp of Sucralose instead of Truvia (made them for my Dad and he hates Truvia) – turned out just fine though 😀 Thanks for this 😀
