Fresh and healthy mango smoothie with tofu as the protein!!
Sooo…this smoothie has tofu in it! Wait! Don’t run off yet! 😉
I can explain! So I recently dropped some serious cash and bought a Vitamix blender. I was skeptical but my husband and older boys were really wanting a juicer/blender. They’re so dang expensive! But you know what? I really, really like it!
My husband makes a huge green protein smoothie every evening before we go to bed and he puts it in the fridge to take to work the following day. He makes one for me too. I love drinking it in the morning. It’s seems to really fill me up until lunch, which is awesome. He uses an orange, apple, celery, carrot, greens, and protein powder.
I love the convenience of throwing a scoop of protein powder in the blender, but it can sometimes change the flavor of the drink so you can really only taste the protein. So now I’m trying to switch it up and make new combinations of drinks with different proteins.
When I was at the store recently, I grabbed a carton of soft tofu. Have you ever bought tofu before? They have a few different hardnesses that you can choose from and the soft one is perfect for blending in with smoothies because, obviously, it’s more soft than the others and blends fabulously.
I also grabbed a few mangos because they’re on sale and in season. After messing around with blending the mango and tofu together, I finally got a yummy consistency and the taste that I like! The best part about adding tofu, is that you can’t taste it at all and it adds some awesome low-calorie protein! I can’t wait to try more smoothie combinations with it!
While I was taking pictures of this yummy smoothie, my (almost) 4 year old added his and his little brothers sippy cups to my photo area and was adamant that I take a picture. I thought it came out pretty good, don’t you think?? 😉

So I have actually never had or bought tofu but I am completely interested in this smoothie! I am not really big on buying protein powder so this sounds like it could definitely be an alternative!!
I’m just waiting for my wedding-gift blender to die so I can look at intense versions 🙂 Love this smoothie, great way to incorporate tofu in my diet in a way I would actually consume!
Jen, mangoes are my new favorite food! I bought one a couple weeks ago for my daughter to try out (she’s just started solids) and her and I have been hooked ever since. I love that you added tofu to this smoothie! I’ve never thought of adding that, but that is a genius source of protein for a smoothie! Can’t wait to try this!
Yay!! I hope you do try it! I’m also a huge mango fan. I hate peeling them but it’s so worth it! Isn’t the tofu a great idea?! You can’t even taste it! Thanks for stopping by, Ashlyn! I LOVE your blog!!!
I love the use of tofu…and mango makes one of the best smoothies! Yumm!
Hi Jen! Thank you so much for sharing! I LOVE all things tofu! I also love protein shakes! I can’t wait to try this the next time I get some tofu from the store (it’s a regular in our house). Did I mention I love mangoes too? I guess this would be the perfect smoothie for me then! Love! Thank you for sharing this gem!
Yay! I’m so excited for you to try it! Let me know how you like it! I’m also obsessed with mangos but it was my first at trying tofu! You might need to share some good tofu recipes for me to try!
I have never used tofu before but this recipe is tempting me to get it and give it a try. I like the frozen mango idea because that would allow me to use little or no sweetener.
I can’t believe how easy it is to add in tofu and it doesn’t make it taste weird! I use it all the time in smoothies now. Thanks for the nice comment!
