My mom has been here visiting me all week for her Spring Break and I wanted to try out some new recipes while she was here. I busted out my “Fix It and Forget It” cookbook and found this recipe in the back. My mom has an amazing hot fudge cake recipe for the oven but we wanted to see how this crock pot recipe would taste.
Let’s just say, we had zero leftovers! Doesn’t it look SOOOO good?!! It’s rich, gooey and super chocolatey. This is my new favorite dessert!
Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 3 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cups boiling water
- vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, mix together 1 cup brown sugar, flour, 3 Tbsp. cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk, butter and vanilla. Spread over bottom of slow cooker (batter will be really thick).
- Mix together 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Sprinkle over mixture in slow cooker.
- Pour boiling water over the top. Do not stir.
- Cover and cook on HIGH 2-3 hours, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. ENJOY!!

Hi, I recently tried a crock put hot fudge cake and it wasn’t that good. My next plan was to pull out my fix it and forget it book. Glad to know there’s a good one there!

This was by far the best ever chocolate cake (coming from a chocoholic. This is the 3rd time I have made it on Saturday mornings so my family can INDULGE all weekend. I followed the recipe exactly and would not change anything about this recipe…..if you want true moist, chocolate cake. Even better left over. I will let you know if I ever have enough left overs to test freezing portions.

what size crockpot do you use?
Jen says
Hi Meg! I use a 6 quart crock pot. Let me know if you have any other questions!!
Elaine C says
So no one has tried this?
Jen says
I have! It’s very easy and tasty. I believe there are a few other people that have commented that they tried it and loved it, as well. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
Peggy says
Can you fix this and remove from the slow cooker to have the next day?
Jen says
I’ve never tried doing that. I’m thinking the fudgy sauce would soak into the cake and it wouldn’t be as good. It’s so thick and fudgy the day you make it!
Staci says
I want to make it just like this. 🙂 what brand of cocoa powder did you use? I had a recipe that called for cocoa powder and the tolhouse brand is no where near this dark XD
Jen says
I think I used Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa??
