Don’t let the name scare you! So, what actually is a dump cake? It’s an extremely yummy cake made with a base of some sort of filling and then is topped with dry cake mix and drizzled with butter and baked.

How Do You Make a Pumpkin Dump Cake?
It’s so easy! Let me give you a quick rundown of the steps – the full recipe is below.
Step 1: Preheat oven & prep pan
Preheat your oven to 350º F. Spray a 9×13 dish with cooking spray.
Step 2: Make the pumpkin mixture
Combine pure pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Pour that yumminess into the sprayed dish.
Step 3: Top the pumpkin mixture
Sprinkle the cake mix on top and some chopped pecans. Top with melted butter.
Step 4: Bake
Throw in the oven – and in 50 minutes, you have an amazing dessert!
Step 5: EAT!
Top with whipped cream or ice cream and DEVOUR!

Equipment
- 9x13 Baking Dish
Ingredients
- 1 29 ounce can pure pumpkin puree (not pie filling)
- 1 12 ounce can evaporated milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 15.25 ounce box yellow cake mix
- 1 cup pecans chopped
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted
- whipped cream or ice cream for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350º F. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- Mix pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, salt and cinnamon together in a mixing bowl. Pour pumpkin mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the pumpkin mixture in the pan. Top with pecans.
- Pour melted butter over the top of the pecans. Don't stir. Place in preheated oven and bake for 50 minutes.
- Top with whipped cream or ice cream if desired and ENJOY!
